On Saturday night, Sept. 14, Floyd Mayweather was masterful again, winning a commanding majority decision over Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in front of a packed crowd inside of the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Mayweather was on point throughout the bout, nullifying his opponent with his excellent jab, sharp combinations, and his ability to evade all of Canelo’s big punches.
Following the action, much hoopla was made over judge C.J. Ross’ bizarre 114-114 verdict, while judges Craig Metcalfe and Dave Moretti were a little more reasonable with their 117-111 and 116-112 tallies.
Throughout the evening, several other figures from the sport were handling action of their own, as Philadelphia’s Danny Garcia (27-0, 16 KO’s) overcame a spirited effort from Lucas Matthysse (35-2, 32 KO’s) in winning a unanimous decision.
Several other rising talents moved forward with their careers, as Carlos Molina captured the IBF junior middleweight championship from Ishe Smith, while Cesar Pablo Cano won a tough battle against Ashley Theophane.
Also producing victories were fighters from the Mayweather Promotions banner, including Ronald Gavril, Luis Arias, Lanell Bellows, and Chris Pearson.
