Liverpool musician Thomas McConnell, whose quick cover of Paul McCartney's new single “New” became an internet sensation, got his wish for some recognition by McCartney himself Sept. 6 when the video was posted to the former Beatle's official Facebook page and his Twitter account. (You can see the video on this page.)
“!!!!! I can't believe this!,” McConnell told Beatles Examiner when we informed him on Facebook. On his Facebook page, an obviously excited McConnell posted, “Paul McCartney has shared me. Paul McCartney has shared me.”
In response to a comment on the McCartney page that said, "I'd be freakin' if I was the guy," McConnell replied, "I am."
“Check out this cover of Paul's 'New' song by fellow Liverpudlian Thomas McConnell,” read the text posted officially to McCartney's page.
McConnell, who gave his first interview about the video to Beatles Examiner, said his mother gave him the idea to do the cover of “New.” The video was posted the same day McCartney released the song.
McCartney guitarist Brian Ray was one of McConnell's earliest supporters. “Great job, Thomas! Nice playing, spirit and singing,” he wrote.
McConnell told Beatles Examiner his big wish was that McCartney would see it. "I'd love to get it to Paul somehow.”
It looks like that indeed has happened.
