On what we may not know about Stevie Boi
"I have worked for the government, running a network system for soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan. I even have licenses to drive tanks and use military weapons."
On how he describes his own style, and who/what inspires it
"I describe my own style as edgy, clean...grungy and confusing. I like to dress the way that I feel rather than dress the way I want to look. I am deeply inspired by my environment. If I'm in a room full of metal, I want to wear silver. I also like to wear black too, it makes me feel powerful."
On his success defining moment
"My success defining moment was when I received two Vogue covers featuring my eyewear, back to back.It was Vogue Italy and Vogue Japan. It was unreal, unplanned, and never done before by an independent designer."
On dealing with adversity, negativity, and imitation in the fashion industry
"Sometimes I have to remind myself that this is the industry, and I must stay out of my feelings. Other times I get upset and I rant on Twitter. I think imitation is hilarious but sad. I don't understand why people do it. If it's not original, I don't want to hear about it."
On who he would like to see wearing his designs
I would love to see Grace Jones, Ciara, and Donatella Versace wearing my designs. I love what Grace Jones has done for fashion. I love Ciara's approach and
progression with music, and I respect Versace's great clothing brand.
On fashion trends he likes and doesn't like
"I like anything that is innovative, dark, and extremely controversial. I don't like crocs, they're so ugly!"
On his latest collection, "Leather"
It's over 30 pieces. I was inspired by a condom. I saw a chanel condom ad, and the condom looked as if it was leather. Weird, but I thought that was interesting..."
On advice to those with interest to break into the fashion accessory industry
"You must not come into this industry trying to make best friends. This
is a hateful world. And it's even harder in a small industry.Oh, and be original. Don't copy me, thanks!"
On what fans can look forward to from Stevie Boi in 2013
"The biggest surprise fans can look forward to is the television work I filmed, styled, and designed for action films. They can also look forward to me acting. I am more than just a designer. I'm a mogul with no filter."
