Nashville based musician Jenn Bostic has had a passion for music for as long as she can remember. Not only is she a natural performer, but also a talented composer and multi–instrumentalist. In a recent interview, she talked about her start in music, her new album and much more.
Bostic grew up in Minnesota and found herself surrounded with music at a young age. Her dad was a professional keyboard player who died in a car accident when she was just ten years old. “Writing music was therapy. I really got into music in high school, then went to Berkley in Boston, and moved to Nashville after that,” she explained.
Two of her biggest influences include Bonnie Raitt and Sarah McLachlan, and she’s always loved piano, pop–driven music. Bostic describes her music as “emotional pop and singer–songwriter.” “Jealous” was released in the United Kingdom and Ireland in September 2012, and her song "Jealous of the Angels,” a song written about her father, was released as her debut single in the U.K. in December. The song reached number one on the UK singer-songwriter charts. The album was released in June at digital retailers. It debuted on the iTunes Singer-Songwriter Album chart at #22, which was the third week she made her third appearance at the Grand Ole Opry.
She will release her new three-song EP, Missin’ a Man, on September 23rd. The title track is the third single from her UK smash album, Jealous. The EP also includes the songs, "Not Yet" and a brand new crowd-favorite, "Superstar."
When it comes to her music, Bostic says, “I want to write something that’s going to touch someone’s heart...I love seeing people inspired.” One of her most memorable moments was when she performed at the Grand Ole Opry on the anniversary of her father’s death. “It was a pretty special night...I felt his presence. I closed my eyes and when I opened them, everyone was standing,” she said.
Bostic is very proud if her latest album. “It’s a collection of the best songs I have...there’s a lot of hope in that album,” she said. She has a growing fan base in the U.K., and it’s opened the doors for her all over the world. Be sure to check out this talented musician.
