New York native Model Devyn is the winner of season one of Oxygen's reality competition The Face.
She attended Harry S. Truman High School in the Bronx and we caught up with her and asked her some questions after she came back from her Alma mater where she hosted World Smile Day® on October 4th with cleft charity Smile Train.
1-As the winner of the first ever “The Face” competition what advice would you give to the future contestants?
My advice to the girls for "The Face" season 2 would be the same advice I would give to anyone who is trying to pursue a modeling career. Never try to fit in a category, BE THE CATEGORY! In the fashion industry so many people, stylists, photographers, magazine editors, casting directors, agents, and even models themselves, look at models for what they look like and who they resemble that they forget that there are so many inspiring models all over the world for you to compare yourself too it just becomes daunting. The day you've recognized that the modeling world is not about looks and that it’s about confidence, you've already won. Have people recognize and respect you for you and your presence will be timeless. When people recognize you for what you look like you can easily be replaced.
2-You probably have been asked this a million times but we have to do it; what was it like to work with Naomi Campbell, Coco Rocha and Karolina Kurkova?
It was complete honor to work with the amazing models but even more amazing women. It's an experience that I will be able to talk about for the rest of my life. I'm so happy I did the show and so proud of who I am now because of it.
3-You walked in New York Fashion Week this year what was the experience like?
This fashion week is the 2nd time I walked for New York fashion week and it was incredible. What I loved about this fashion week compared to the last time I've walked, is how I was able to experience it in so many different ways. I've walked for designers Joanna Mastroianni, Pamella Roland, and David Tlale. I also hosted backstage this fashion week alongside ULTA Beauty since I am currently their Brand Ambassador. I had the ultimate pleasure of being asked to attend shows like Tadashi Shoji, Charlotte Ronson and many more. So this fashion week has been a world wind from all angles and I loved every second of it.
4-Tell us a little bit about your personal style and what are your favorite designers?
I am a very bold person. I love fashion so much because it is really everyone's first impression of you. You really are expressing yourself every single day before you leave your front door. The way I see it every day I wake up I'm Devyn but a different Devyn. I don't feel the same every day, so I never know what I'm going to throw on or mix up in my closet until I wake up that morning, which is the fun part about it. You never know what you’re going to get with me which I love. But, what you do know is that it will be bold and in your face.
5-What are your future plans and what are you working on now?
My future plans are to continue modeling and following my heart and doing what I love no matter what it is.
