Madeline Figueroa Jones is a NY native and former plus size model that has become the “Anna Wintour” of the plus size industry. She is currently the Editor-in-Chief of Plus Model Magazine, the premiere virtual magazine celebrating plus size fashion and the plus size modeling industry.
I spoke with her exclusively at the Full Figured Fashion Week Casting Tour 4th stop sponsored by Lane Bryant that was held yesterday in Orlando.
FE: How important it is for you to be a part of the FFF Week casting tour?
MFJ: It is really important, Full Figured Fashion Week is the top of the line when it comes to the plus size industry fashion events and it is an honor for me to be one of the judges.
FE: You are considered to be the “Anna Wintour” of the plus size industry. How do you feel about that?
MFJ: The first time I heard it I was humbled and scared. It’s a lot of pressure but I am happy with what we are collectively doing for the plus size industry. I am humbled by it. Anna Wintour is at the top of the food chain when it comes to fashion and if I can be a little piece of what she is than I am really happy about that.
FE: Have you considered putting more male plus size models in the magazine including the cover?
MFJ: Yes!! For 2013 there will be a lot more male models on the magazine. I am also considering doing an all plus size male model issue in 2013.
FE: Plus Model Magazine is an online magazine; do you think that we will be able to see PMM is store shelves soon?
MFJ: I would love to, that is my dream. That is my ultimate goal. In my morning prayers I ask god every day for that.
FE: I always like to end my interviews by asking my guest for some words of wisdom or a favorite quote, what is yours?
MFJ: “Be true to yourself and be kind to yourself…You are the only person that knows you best”.
