Exclusive Interview with Lake Effect Brewing Company co-owner Clint Bautz

About a week back I had to opportunity to throw a few questions at Clint Bautz, the co-founder of Lake Effect Brewing Company. Clint and his partner-in-crime, Lynn Ford, started Lake Effect a few years ago and haven't looked back since. They're definitely picking up steam in the Chicago marketplace and gaining notoriety due to solid beers and crafty collaborations.

Take a look below to see how our conversation went.

How did you and Lynn meet?

We met at the local pub, Ravens, in Lincoln Park- We were neighbors.

How long was the process of getting up and running from start to finish?

Three years ago we wrote business plan, we've been in our location for 10 months [and we've] been in the market for three months.

What kind of speed-bumps did you run into along the way?

It took six months to find a building [and the] licensing took six months [as well].

Where do you want to see Lake Effect in 3 years?

As a solid Chicago brewery with a focus on the NW side. We'd like to have a tasting bar at the factory - perhaps on Milwaukee Ave.

What's your favorite Lake Effect beer?

Bitchin' Blonde Belgian Style Blonde Ale

What's your favorite non Lake Effect beer?

Unfiltered Pilsner Urquell from an open-top wood fermenter 20 meters below ground

I definitely want to thank Clint for his time and wish all of the folks at Lake Effect the best! I can't wait to see where you take things in the coming months.
