Exclusive interview with Delfino Ramos, happy handyman from ‘Auction Kings’

Delfino Ramos talks about Gallery 63 and "Auction Kings."

I recently had the opportunity to sit down with the entire cast of Discovery Channel’s breakout hit Auction Kings, including the always-happy handyman, Delfino Ramos. After spending some time with reality TV’s newest star, I’m completely convinced that Delfino is a positive addition to Gallery 63 and Auction Kings.

According to Gallery 63 owner Paul Brown, Delfino Ramos is a fix-it genius, who can take apart, tune up, assemble or rewire anything that comes in. One of Delfino’s biggest challenges during season one of Auction Kings was a 90-year-old player piano, which he was able to restore – despite never having worked on one. “It’s a long story,” Delfino told me, quite humbly. The happy handyman also said that pinball machines are always a challenge, but when he finally does fix them, “It’s like winning the Jumbo Bucks!” Delfino looks at each repair project as a separate challenge and explained, “I always say, let me try. I’ll do the best I can.”

Delfino Ramos was hired at Gallery 63 in 2005, the year it opened its doors in Atlanta. He was hired as temporary help, but his infectious smile, perpetual good attitude and undeniable talent led Paul to hire him, despite not having an opening at the time. “Delfino is a good guy. He can do anything. He’s like the voice of reason,” Paul Brown said of Delfino.

Happy handyman Delfino is amazed by the success of Auction Kings, and the way the show has turned business around at Gallery 63. However, he remains true to himself and his role at the Gallery. When I questioned Delfino about his favorite aspects about his job, he responded that he liked the fact that he’s not cooped up in an office all day. He also likes auction days because they’re always so exciting.

So, I wondered how Delfino feels about his newfound celebrity status. Delfino smiled and said, “It’s cool because a lot of people come up to me and say that they saw me on the show.” However, the happy handyman has in no way let stardom go to his head. He remains as grounded and loyal as the first day when he was hired.

“Delfino can not only fix anything, but he can transform our floor in a matter of hours – and is always a pleasure to be around to boot,” Paul Brown said when he described his handyman. The sentiment is echoed by Delfino, who has a true respect for his co-workers Cindy Shook, Jon Hammond and boss Paul Brown. “They’re my friends. Everyone is very friendly and we’re like a big family.”

The season one finale of Auction Kings airs on Tuesday, February 1st at 10/9c on Discovery Channel. If you haven’t yet caught an episode, it’s great TV that follows the happenings of Gallery 63 and its genuinely entertaining staff, including happy handyman, Delfino Ramos.

How many different types of items come into an auction house? He must work on so many different things all the time. Not an easy job.

Awesome series. I think it is one of the best on cable today. Delfino is the "man".
