Actress Kathy Kinney is a busy lady these days. Besides continuing to work in film and television, she also stars as Mrs. P on Mrs. P's Magic Library. The site -- based in Portland, Ore.  -- provides a free, virtual storytime for kids, while also offering interactive activities and resources for parents and teachers.

Now, Kinney -- as Mrs. P -- is getting ready to release a book to complement the virtual Magic Library.

Mrs. P's Favorite Stories will be a compilation of favorite stories from the Magic Library, giving more layers to the experience kids have when they visit the site. Children can listen to Mrs. P reading a story from the Magic Library, and will be able to follow along in the book. (All of the stories in the Magic Library also have read-a-long text available online, as well.)

"I can hear something," Kinney says. "But it makes it more solid in my brain if I'm hearing it and seeing it."

So when will Mrs. P's Favorite Stories be available? "As soon as the elves finish all their gathering of the information," Kinney says. (We're told the book should be out sometime this year.)

Kathy Kinney will go on tour this Spring to promote her book, "Queen
of Your Own Life," which she co-wrote with Cindy Ratzlaff.

Aside from her work with MrsP.com, Kinney also has her own book coming out this spring, Queen of Your Own Life: The Grown-up Woman's Guide to Claiming Happiness and Getting the Life You Deserve.

Kinney wrote the book along with Cindy Ratzlaff, and it's due to be published in April.

"I'm gearing up for a big book launch, and going out on book tour," Kinney says of her plans for this Spring.

So what is the book about? Kinney says the subtitle tells you everything.

"I'm from the Midwest, and so is my friend, Cindy," Kinney says. "It's our no-nonsense, humorous guide on how to be happy now that you're in the middle of your life, and you have the whole second half of your life ahead of you."

Of course, before Kinney can head out on book tour, she has to announce the winners of Mrs. P's "Be a Famous Writer" Contest. The winners will be announced on MrsP.com (and here at Portland Books Examiner) on Friday, January 15th.
