Last night in Las Vegas, Nevada, Showtime offered up a triple-header from the Palms Casino and Resort that was headlined by a WBA junior featherweight title scrap between Rico Ramos (20-1, 11 knockouts) and Guillermo Rigondeaux (9-0, 7 knockouts) and paired with a junior lightweight war between unbeaten Joel Diaz Jr. (7-1, 6 knockouts) and Guy Robb (7-1, 3 knockouts) plus a scrap between Matt Villanueva (7-0-1, 7 knockouts) and Mike Ruiz Jr. (8-1-1, 3 knockouts).
Rigondeaux, the decorated two-time Cuban Gold medalist, got off to a fast start against Ramos, dropping the champion in the first round and appearing to make him apprehensive several rounds after. The ending would come in the sixth as Rigondeaux rushed Ramos, nailing him repeatedly to the head and finishing him off with a crippling shot to the body that had him out for the count of ten.

The Diaz-Robb bout was one of the better action tussles in recent memory as the two fighters traded knockdowns early and rocked each other throughout the contest. Diaz finished Robb off along the ropes in the seventh round but the stoppage appeared to be a little premature.
Villanueva also shined, controlling a game Ruiz with his superior length and fluidity. Villanueva scored a knockdown early and bloodied Ruiz’s face with several sharp, telling blows before seeing the contest halted in the seventh.
Notables in attendance included superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr., WBO female champion Ana Julaton, color commentators Andre Ward and Antonio Tarver, Cuban lightweight prospect Rances Barthelemy, local Vegas prospect Lonnie Smith, major league baseball legend Pete Rose, former champion James Toney, trainer Miguel Diaz, junior middleweight contender Deandre Latimore, lightweight contender Sharif Bogere, and others.
