Las Vegas—Just a few short hours ago in front of a packed house at the Mandalay Bay, all fighters for the UFC 143 weigh-in tipped the scales.
Each fighter made weight without incident and the crowd was in a raucous mood. Of course main event combatant Nick Diaz garnered the widest mix of applause. Whether people boo because they hate him, or cheer because they adore him, one way or another people care about Nick Diaz—and that was evident by today’s reception.
On the flip side, we have Carlos Condit. Cut from the same ‘fighter cloth’ as Diaz, “The Natural Born Killer” is no doubt the more professional of the two fighters. But then again, what is ‘professional’? This is fighting, it’s not accounting. So we are left to look at each fighters pedigree, and folks, let me tell you, these two fighters share an amazing pedigree.
And that’s what makes Saturday so amazing—despite being seemingly polar opposites, it’s their in-ring technique and overall MMA prowess that make them so similar. And did I mention exciting?
Also on the card is a co-main event showdown between Roy “Big Country” Nelson taking on Fabricio Werdum. These heavyweights have plenty of firepower in their arsenal and each have an affinity for putting on exciting fights.
Speaking of exciting fights; Josh Koscheck’s opponent, Mike Pierce, dawned a blonde wig at the weigh-ins and “Kos” didn’t take kindly. With wig in tow, Pierce and Koscheck got in a heated exchange before UFC President Dana White separated the two.
