Designer Christos Garkinos is launching eureka by Christos Garkinos exclusively with HSN next month on March 20 and 21. Christos’ collection, which features knit peasant blouses, a column dress, and a Chanel-inspired cropped jacket were designed for women with real bodies. The styles are both daring and elegant, combining old Hollywood glamour with worldly decadence; ranging from $59.90 to $119.90. The collection is a mix of prints, colors and textures, and seems very comfortable. The printed dresses are very wearable and versatile. There are also more relaxed pieces such as some classic striped sweaters that everyone needs in their wardrobe, and a dress that works for all occasions and is flattering on everyone. Today on Feb. 16 Examiner.com is excited to share our exclusive interview with Christos from the HSN Lounge at the Empire Hotel during fashion week.
What prompted you to start designing and come out with a collection?
I’ve always wanted to design that was a long term dream, and I want to do something where all women of all sizes could wear something. I wanted to really develop a line that catered a Hollywood style, but for every woman.
I see that you have a mixture of prints and basics, what made you decide to do that?
Any grown up, any age can wear this, it's a homage to the 90s grunge and you can wear it with anything and go anywhere. You don’t have to be skinny to wear this, it's for every girl.
So where did your inspiration for the textures and the prints come from?
This is a print I found in my friend’s closet 4 or 5 years ago, and I kept it, I knew I wanted it in my line. I obviously love Chanel, so that’s where the yarn and tweed come into play. The rest is a mixture of women that inspired me. I met Sophia Lauren when I was 15 and she was wearing a peasant blouse, so it was forever stuck in my head. The overarching point is that they are classic and modern and look good on any size woman and don’t hide things.
So are all your clothes versatile for every shape and size?
The materials we’re using are not overtly tight or body conscious, and this dress could even work for and early pregnancy with the empire waist. The Contania Dress it goes high waisted and is very flattering for every shape and size.
