Sinbad came out strong during this season of "Celebrity Apprentice," but he was ultimately fired after coming up short as project manager. I had the opportunity to talk to the comedian on Monday about his time on the show, his plans moving forward, and the ever-so-delicate topic of Rod Blagojevich's balloon obsession from the Kodak challenge.
Matt Carter: So what was the deal with Rod Blagojevich's balloons?
Sinbad: We talk about giving people a task to do...once we told him to get the balloons that was all he'd talk about. I was just like, 'dude, get the balloons!' We had balloons even in the diner, and all we did was called the balloon guy and bought them, no big thing.
He just made this big thing about the balloons, about the balloons -- and the balloons were cool -- and I guess he just wanted to make sure we knew that he got these balloons.
Matt: What was your story being getting casted?
Sinbad: I got a call from my agent who said Mark Burnett's people wanted to talk to me about 'Celebrity Apprentice.' At the time I was like 'man, I don't know...you can end up looking pretty bad on the show if you don't do it right.' But the charity part of it is so strong -- you can raise a good amount of money for charity -- and I just said 'hey, if I go in and be myself, I never have to be ashamed of what I did.'"
Matt: Did you try to watch any previous seasons to figure out what worked?
Sinbad: There's no way to figure it out. You know what [one secret] is? If you can avoid being project manager for as long as possible. That's why Rod Blagojevich threw it down to me.
Matt: So you think the Governor was just trying trying to push himself aside for later?
Sinbad. He pushed himself aside. Think about it: Bret Michaels -- he let Curtis [Stone] do his thing. [Rod] stayed out of the firing range. It was pretty smart.
Matt: What's next for you now?
Sinbad: Right now I'm putting this tour together including some comedy and music...looking forward to putting the finishing touches on a couple of movies, and doing some TV projects...just to even walk on some shows that I like. Do some dramas along with some comedies.
