When some Christians see many dark clouds moving over the horizon and then see some flashes of lightning coming out of those clouds, they realize that a thunderstorm could be coming into their area and as such they see the need to quickly finish what they are doing and find a safe shelter to protect them from the coming storm.
Just as Christians can see a physical weather storm coming and the need to protect themselves from the effects of that storm; so also Christians can see the storms of spiritual deception coming into their area when they are using the spiritual discernment given to them by the insight of the Holy Spirit and their good working knowledge of God’s principles of living found in the Bible.
These storms of spiritual deception are created as the Devil and his spiritual forces of darkness send out many forms of spiritual deceptions so they can distract some people away from following God’s principle of living and get them into following ungodly fleshly temptations, distortions of God’s principles of living, and other demonic deceptions.
These deceptions initially look good so people will open themselves up to accepting them. However, the people that submit to them soon find themselves going down a slippery slope into being involved in beliefs and actions that are openly breaking God’s laws and bringing God’s punishment of the sentence of spiritual death because of that.
This deceptive process was warned about by the Apostle Paul when he prophesied that ”in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits, and doctrines of demons.” (1 Timothy 4:4 NASB)
“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires and will turn their ears away from the truth, and will turn aside to myths.” (2 Timothy 4:3-4)
In Matthew 24:4-5, 24-27, Jesus warned His disciples to beware of spiritual deception when they heard people talk about who would be God’s Messiah until He returned to earth: “See to it that no one misleads you. For many will come in My name and will mislead many . . . For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible even the elect . . . If they say to you ‘Behold, he is in the wilderness, do not go forth, or ‘Behold, he is in the inner rooms, do not believe them. For just as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so shall the coming of the Son of Man be.”
In 2 Thessalonians 2:3-10, the Apostle Paul further warned Christians about the storm of spiritual deception that will happen when the man of lawlessness comes. He will use the spiritual power of the Devil to produce signs and false wonders in order to deceive those people who won’t receive God’s truths and become saved.
Even though that man hasn’t yet been revealed on earth, the mystery and spirit of lawlessness that will empower him is currently working hard to deceive many people into committing great actions of lawlessness all over the world-which can be seen by watching the television news programs about current events.
In some areas of the world the demonic spirit of lawlessness has combined with spirit of antichrist (warned about by the Apostle John in 1 John 2:18, 4:3 and in 2 John 7) to produce the spiritual storms of intense persecution and martyrdom of Christians as prophesied in Revelation 6:11, 7:14, and 13:7.
Although some Christians may suffer in the above form of spiritual deception, many Christians can fight off the effect of those storms in many ways. The first of those is by having a strong spiritual house that is anchored to the solid rock foundation of having Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. The second way to fight those storms is by using the insight and power of the Holy Spirit to warn them about any attacks or deceptions by demonic forces.
The third way to fight off the attacks of spiritual deceptions is to have a good working knowledge of God’s teachings and His principles of living found in the Bible so they can compare what the attempted deception says to what God says. If there is a difference, then Christians can reject that deceitful teaching.
Sometimes Christians may have to use their spiritual weapons described in Ephesians 6:10-18, the name of Jesus, and the power of the Holy Spirit to bind the attacking demonic forces and throw them into the abyss/lake of fire forever.
Since the spiritual warfare between God’s spiritual kingdom of light and the Devil’s spiritual kingdom of darkness will continue until the very end when God’s Judgment Day is over and God throws the Devil, his spiritual forces of darkness, and his followers into the lake of fire as described in Revelation 20:10,15; then there will be many spiritual battles to fight with the spiritual storms of deception and the need for Christians to maintain their strong spiritual house, use the insight and power of the Holy Spirit to guide them, and also use their spiritual weapons to fight those spiritual battles during the rest of their earthly journey of life.
