Examiner Music Spotlight: NY Emcee Spark Gliss

Give us some background info as to who you are.
I am a rapper by the name of Spark Gliss. I come straight out of Brentwood Long Island born in 1979 around the same time Hip Hop was born. I am a real thorough dude who is about his music and family. Ever since I was a little kid my mom used to sing to me and my other siblings. She always said music cleans the soul; she even sang in the church choir. Hence, music has always been a part of my life.

What is the significance of your name?
My name Spark Gliss is unique and different. It’s another part of me and my artistry. It is my outlet to voice my feelings and thoughts which in turn I share with the fans, the listeners. And so on the name spark Gliss creates the urge to be creative and original point blank.

Who is your target market?
My music targets everybody especially the youth, teens and college students and so on. I have a sound for every ear and genre.

How would you describe your sound?
I would describe my sound as an atom bomb of destruction; it’s a nuclear Hip Hop warfare/ take over presented by the KING OF LONG ISLAND.

What is your USP? (Unique Selling Proposition) and what sets you apart from other artists?
My USP is integrating Hip Hop with different genres from all over the world. You have to think outside of the box. That’s what separates me from any other artists out here. When they go right I go left. It’s that simple.

What single or project are you currently pushing?
Right now I have a mixtape out that is hot in the streets. I'm talking the middle of the earth’s core hot type of mixtape. It is called (631) hosted by SMACK from URL. The project features artists like Fred the Godson , Maliibu Miitch, Jsosa, Ynot, Wagner Gervais, Ibascy and many more. It is a classic street album. It’s the type of album that becomes your favorite album with songs you want to keep on repeat. It features that constant nonstop sound that Hip Hop is missing and needs right now. From intro to outro the mixtape (631) is definitely a head banger.

What is the philosophy by which you live by?
My Philosophy is “God wouldn't give you anything that you couldn't handle.”

Which artists have inspired you?
Artists who have inspired me include Kool Moe Dee, Doug E Fresh, KRS One, Queen Latifah, Special Ed, Kwame, and many more.

Who does your production?
My production is handled by Dan "The Man" Production & Parnell "P-Life" Gervais

What is your opinion of the current state of the music industry?
Right now, I think the industry is upside if you ask me and that’s because of the lack of creativity and diversity.

If you can change one thing about the music industry what would it be and why?
I would change the materialistic ways of Rap music. Hip hop is more than jewels and expensive cars. Hip hop is a culture that gives the youth a voice.

What are some major misconceptions that you think people have of you?
Some people may take my kindness for weakness. I just believe in treating people the way I would like to be treated, plain & simple.

What is your favorite part of your live show? How has it evolved?
The favorite part of doing a live show to me is definitely being on that stage and interacting with the crowd. It’s an amazing and thrilling feeling. I've evolved so much from every show. I'm more relaxed and less nervous and more confident.
