D.C. government shares its city with the U.S. federal government. It's a relationship that sometimes can become very contentious; but every once in a while they manage to find common ground in the nation's capital - the White House Garden Tours happens to be one of those times.
Its the time of the year with the White House invites area residents to view the various gardens located on the White House grounds, a tradition started by [then First Lady] Pat Nixon in 1972.
Residents are able to view the Jacqueline Kennedy Garden, Rose Garden, Children's Garden, and the Kitchen Garden. Along with the gardens were visual explanation to help educate visitors on the elements of the garden, and brief talks by National Park Service staffers.
From 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. uniformed Secret Service agents searched what appeared top be a steady stream of onlookers. I was fortune enough to collect my entry ticket before I went to church, and as soon as church was over, I made my way to the White House.
This particular event was unique because both @WhiteHouse and @MichelleObama posted photos on Instagram about the event, and the White House even had a few lucky Instagram "followers" selected for a private tour of the gardens as part of a White House "InstaMeet" (the White House Fall Garden Social).
