There are tons of great food, drinks, beer, recipe, and cooking ideas posts on Examiner.com coming from lots of great Examiners out there. So, Knoxville, this is a quick peak at what's going on around you, mostly within your own region with a few shout-outs to the National Examiners as well.
The Beer Examiner, Charlie Papazian, wrote a great article reviewing some of the best articles about beer on Examiner.com from the past week. Check it (and the beers) out! He also gives a great tip about how glass shape can drastically affect the taste and experience of a beer in the opening segment of the same article.
The Lynchburg Cooking Examiner, Christy Pringle, posted an excellent pumpkin-pecan pie recipe that demands to be tried. It's simple and sounds delicious... brilliant! Thanksgiving may be gone, but that doesn't mean this pie can't find its way to your table. It would be just as good with butternut squash or sweet potato in place of the pumpkin.
The Murfreesboro Cooking, Examiner Amanda Stubblefield, put up a recipe for homemade pasta that you should check out, particularly if you liked this recent post by yours truly. The oil in the dough will make for a nice flavor and a slightly different texture. Do try it!
The Nashville Easy Meals Examiner, Danielle Miller, posted a nice sausage soup recipe. Sausage and soup are two of the best things ever, and so their marriage has to be great. Give it a look. Since she's an "easy meals" examiner, it should be just as simple to make as it is good! Mmm... soup.
The Gourmet Food Examiner, Elizabeth Kelly, wrote a short article talking about the best upcoming food festivals in the month of December. Hopefully this timely article will direct some folks to some great food and great fun during their holiday travels. She also posted a few great recipe articles, including:
- A sweet potato soufflé recipe that looks glorious, gourmet, and absolutely joy-bringing.
- Four lovely sauces for your holiday turkey or other roasted poultry.
- Six great ways to marinate your turkey, supposing you don't brine your bird (which is an awesomely good thing to do!).
- Elizabeth is also the Knoxville Healthy Food Examiner, and she posted this piece on a tasty-looking, health veggie-filled casserole.
The Recipe Examiner, Cheryl D. Lee, posted a holiday recipe for wild rice and sausage and chestnuts that looks simply stunning. I hope to try it soon! I think it would go great alongside a nice Christmas duck or something like that. She also posted a great recipe for cloverleaf dinner rolls that is a bit different from my own recent post about rolls. I'm sure it would make great pepperoni rolls if the seeds were left out and about 3/4 c. of sugar was added to make them sweet rolls! In addition, don't miss her super-easy article for homemade cranberry and orange sauce... just like I used to make.
Also, in case you've missed them, take a look at some of my own favorite posts from this week:
- A great homemade chicken stock recipe and a perfect, all-from-scratch, chicken noodle soup to make with it.
- Pepperoni rolls: a favorite not just for West Virginians. A batch has a hard time lasting 12 hours around here, and I bet it'd be the same at your house!
- A list of tips making it very clear why you should be deeply in love with paprika, especially the smoked kind, as long as you dodge the cheap-o stuff.
- Christmas time means citrus time, so don't miss this article about all of the great citrus available right now and what to do with it.
- How to make your own pasta from scratch with a bare minimum of ingredients, an absolute necessity for your homemade, all-from-scratch chicken noodle soup in the first bullet.
