A former state trooper was indicted Wednesday for a crash that killed the wife of the Atlanta Braves trainer and injured his family.
Trooper First Class Mr. Donald Crozier was charged with first-degree homicide by vehicle in the 2011 death of Mrs. Kathy Porter.
He was also charged with reckless driving and violation of oath by public officer, according to the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office.
The crash happened on Dec. 31, 2011 while the Porter family was en route to the Chick-fil-A Bowl at the Georgia Dome.
Mrs. Porter, 54, was a passenger in the 2006 Ford Expedition that her husband Mr. Jeff Trainer was driving when the vehicle was struck by Trooper Crozier’s patrol car at the intersection of Capitol Avenue and Memorial Drive.
Mrs. Porter died at the scene, Ms. Jones said. Her husband, the couple’s son and a family friend were injured.
“Trooper Crozier was on duty at the time of the incident and en route to a call,” Ms. Jones said. “He was terminated after the crash.”
So far, no date has been set for Mr. Crozier’s trial.
