Dustin Kensrue's much-anticipated second solo-outing, The Water and the Blood is slated for release on October 8th via Mars Hill Music and BEC.
When Orange County rock group, Thrice, diffused in 2012 after a career spanning seven albums (technically12 if you count their ep's and live records separately) over the course of 14 years, fans were understandably devastated. Although most of the band acknowledged that music would continue to play a huge role in their lives, and they would devote much more time its creation, there were skeptics and pessimists aplenty. The negativity wasn't much helped when ex-frontman Dustin Kensrue announced that he had elected to accept a position as the youth pastor of the Mars Hill Church.
Of course, the skeptics can finally be put to rest because Kensrue is, in fact, releasing a new solo record. Any and all criticism about a former rock star following up his monumental career with what is ultimately a christian worship record can be put to rest by simply streaming the first single off the album, It's Not Enough. Sounding like a cut taken directly off the "water" portion of Thrice's Alchemy Index, the song's haunting minimalism and Kensrue's token rasp more than make up for those who don't quite dig the heavy-handed religious lyricism.
