Ex teacher sentenced to 10 years for having sex with a minor (Photos)

Former teacher, Brian Lindberg, 43, was sentenced to a 10 year prison term , on Feb. 7, 2013. Lindberg, originally from Minnesota, held several teaching jobs in Honolulu. During the time that Lindberg was a teacher at the Hawaiian Mission Academy, he engaged in a sexual relationship for six-months, with a 14-year-old student at the school.

Lindberg was charged with 11 counts of 1st degree sexual assault and 5 counts of 3rd degree sexual assault. Lindberg was married at the time of the sexual assault. At his sentencing, Lindberg gave the conciliatory, I'm sorry to the victim, her family and his wife and family.

Perpetrating tears, Lindberg admitted what he did was inexcusable. "The betrayal of trust as a person, as a friend, as a teacher. I'm so sorry for that," said Lindberg.

KITV4 reports, "Prosecutors said Lindberg would drive the girl to school and they would have sex in the car and in his classroom before school.

"When they got to the classroom, they would lock the door and go into a storage area next to the classroom where they would engage in a variety of sexual acts," said Deputy Prosecutor Thalia Murphy.

Lindberg is also accused of sexting, videotaping and photographing nude pictures of the girl."

Lindberg left his teaching position at the Hawaiian Mission Academy, when his contract ended in 2009, the school had been made aware of allegations of possible criminal sexual behavior involving a student that may have occurred while he was employed by the school.

Upon learning of the allegations, the school promptly reported the matter to both the Honolulu Police Department and Child Welfare Services.

Lindberg was working at another school, Leilehua High School, when police arrested him at the school, on Oct. 29, 2011. The multiple assaults on the the girl took place from Oct. 2008 to Mar. 2009. Lindberg was age 39 at the time, when the girl was 14-years-old.

According to the state Department of Education, Lindberg also taught at Waialua High and Intermediate, Wahiawa Middle and Mililani Middle, before starting at Leilehua in 2009. Lindberg has since lost his job as a teacher and likely will never work as one again. He also has to register as a sex offender.
