Ex-cop gets 25 years for sexually assaulting 12-year-old DeKalb County girl

A former Fulton County officer was convicted Thursday of raping a 12-year-old girl, and now the ex-cop who once swore to uphold the law has to register as a sex offender.

Mr. Michael Bernard Wilson, 32, was found guilty of two counts of aggravated child molestation, the DeKalb County District Attorney’s Office announced Friday.

He was sentenced to 25 years in prison, court officials said.

“He was in a position of respect and trust,” District Attorney Mr. Robert James said. “It is truly alarming that an individual tasked with protecting the public has violated his oath of office and became the predator himself. Justice was served today.”

Mr. Wilson was arrested in November 2010 after he was accused of molesting and raping the 12-year-old girl.

The girl’s mother flagged down a DeKalb County police officer on a Sunday afternoon on Covington Highway and told him that the officer had sexually assaulted her daughter, according to a police report.

Mr. Wilson, of Ellenwood, was arrested during a traffic stop, and the five-year veteran of the police department was later fired.
