A 26-year-old man was shot to death late Sunday night in a confrontation with his ex-girlfriend’s boyfriend. And police said the shooter will not likely be charged.

The Richland County Coroner said Mr. Roderick Eugene Harris, Jr., of 918 Cindy Drive, died at 12:32 a.m. Monday after being transported to the hospital by EMS.

He died of a gunshot wound to the upper body, Coroner Mr. Gary Watts said.

Shortly before midnight, Mr. Harris allegedly broke into an apartment in the 5700 block of Randall Avenue Extension, according to Columbia police.

“The female victim tells CPD that she recently ended a relationship with him and that he had been threatening to physically harm her and her current boyfriend,” police spokeswoman Ms. Jennifer Timmons said.

Once Mr. Harris was inside, the woman called 911. She told police the two men got into a confrontation.

“The ex-boyfriend is accused of charging towards the current boyfriend who pulled out a gun and shot him,” Ms. Timmons said.

Initially, the shooter left the scene but later turned himself in to police. His name has not been released.
