Former Astros infielder Anderson Hernandez signed a minor league contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday afternoon.
The deal includes an invitation to Spring Training.
Hernandez, 29, hit .300 with six homers, 52 RBI and 21 stolen bases in 136 games at Triple-A Oklahoma City for the Astros last season.
The switch-hitting infielder made headlines for the RedHawks by posting a 30-game hitting streak -- the longest by an OKC player since the franchise joined the Pacific Coast League in 1998.
However, he didn't play in the big leagues last season.
The Astros claimed Hernandez off waiver from the Cleveland Indians on July 21, 2010 and added him to the 25-man active roster.
He wound up hitting .188 (9-for-48) with an RBI, two doubles, two stolen bases and seven runs scored in 32 games for the Astros.
Hernandez inked a minor league deal with Houston for 2011.
He has appeared in 240 career games at the major league level over six seasons with the Mets, Nationals, Indians and Astros.
