The fascinating yet tragic tale of Eva Perón, the First Lady of Argentina, has come to the Orpheum Theatre. The Twin Cities premiere of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “Evita” will be in Minneapolis until February 2nd as the brand new national tour makes its rounds.

“Evita” captures Eva’s true rags to riches story. As a teen, Eva used her charms and tenacity to get what she desired to become a famous actress in Buenos Aires. There, she met her husband, the future President of Argentina, Juan Perón. As First Lady, her reception was mixed and she was commonly viewed as both a floozy and a champion for the poor. By her late 20’s, she was already one of the most powerful women in the world but eventually, her ambitious nature and poor health overcame her. At the age of 33, Eva died of cancer, leaving her country in hysteria.

While the Tony Award-winning musical made its debut on Broadway over 30-years ago, this updated version features fresh scenic design, orchestrations and choreography. And it is a stunner - thanks to dramatic lighting and some sultry Latin dance moves. The result is a lovely representation of Argentinean culture in the 1930’s – 50’s.

The cast features Caroline Bowman (Eva) and Josh Young (Che) who knock it out of the park in their lead roles with enthusiastic and commanding vocals. Some of the most unforgettable songs include “Don't Cry for Me Argentina,” “Another Suitcase in Another Hall” and “High Flying, Adored”, as well as the inclusion of the Oscar-winning song “You Must Love Me” from the 1996 motion picture “Evita” starring Madonna.

Tickets for “Evita” range from $54 to $109 depending on performance time and seating preference. Tickets may be purchased in person (no service fees) at the State Theatre Box Office at 805 Hennepin Avenue in Minneapolis. You can also purchase online at or by calling Ticketmaster at 1.800.982.2787 Groups of 10 or more can contact 612.373.5665 for discounted reservations.
