The story of the charismatic Eva Peron and her rise from the slums of Argentina to the presidential mansion as First Lady will unfold on the Hobby Center stage in Houston at the Theatre Under the Stars’ Broadway revival production of Evita.
The Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Tony Award winning musical will feature some of theatre’s most notable songs in “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina,” “Another Suitcase in Another Hall,” and “High Flying Adored.” Evita is the passionate and unforgettable true story of the beautiful Eva Peron as she became one of the most powerful women in the world. Later, her greed and fragile health made her one of the most tragic.
The 2013 national Evita tour leads are Caroline Bowman and Josh Young under the direction of Michael Grandage with choreography by Rob Ashford, who is currently directing Carmen at the Houston Grand Opera.
The cast of Evita also includes Sean MacLaughlin as Juan Peron, Desi Oakley as the alternate for Eva, Christopher Johnstone as Magaldi and Krystina Alabado as the Mistress.
Evita’s original 1978 London production ran for 3,176 performances. The 1979 Broadway production (1,567 shows) had more than a dozen national and international tours, as well as innumerable independent productions have been staged around the globe as well as the 1996 film starring Madonna.
