Evgeni Malkin ruled out Sunday vs. Lightning; status going forward unknown

After a collision with Florida Panthers’ defenseman Erik Gudbranson that sent him crashing into the boards, Evgeni Malkin will miss Sunday night’s contest against the Tampa Bay Lightning with a head injury.

Sunday morning, Penguins head coach Dan Bylsma explained that Malkin will be undergoing further evaluations, but has not experienced any headaches. It looks as if Brandon Sutter will move up from his place on the third line to take Malkin’s spot centering the second line with Beau Bennett and Pascal Dupuis. James Neal moved up to Dupuis spot with Sidney Crosby and Chris Kunitz on the first line during the morning skate, Sunday. Taking Sutter’s place on the third line will be Dustin Jeffrey, who is coming off scoring his first goal of the season Friday night.

At this time, there is no timetable as to when Malkin will return to game action, as he continues to be re-evaluated by doctors.
