There are as many books on the market for starting your own business, as there are new business start-ups. Each book claims to provide all you need to know to land on your feet and be legally sound. Living in Tulsa, we are a city built on the entrepreneurial spirit of the energy industry and that spirit is alive and well today. We are known for our creativity and innovation. As a result, new businesses begin here almost monthly and many find they are faced with financial and legal responsibilities they know nothing about.
I recently came across a new book that addresses all possible scenarios facing a new small business. It is comprehensive, well organized and intelligently written. Peri Pakroo is a business and communications consultant equipped with a Juris Doctorate. She is a well known author with a focus on small businesses. Her experience, expertise and education equip her to be a trusted source for starting a new business. The content is relevant, current and ‘on the money’.
Her new book, “The Women’s Small Business Start-up Kit” is one of the only resources I’ve come across that approaches this subject from a holistic approach. In Chapter 1, Pakroo addresses all the issues women face regarding work/life balance, family responsibilities, and creating a realistic vision. The first chapter is followed with a well-organized step-by-step approach to all you need to know financially and legally, as well as what to expect and how to prepare for the unexpected.
Pakroo’s no nonsense approach manages to deliver very complex business concepts – the ones that cripple many small businesses every day – in such a way that not only are they understandable, but clear in their instruction communicating how to put them into action. In addition, it even comes with a CD comprising all the legally compliant forms needed to start your business.
With the number of women business owners growing every day, this book focuses on the unique challenges women face and how to manage them with confidence and, ultimately, success.
If you are considering starting a small business and are seeking guidance and the steps that will take you where you want to go, I strongly recommend, “The Women’s Small Business Start-up Kit”, published by NOLO, a highly respected source for legal information. This book is available on Amazon.com and NOLO.com.

I looked this book up on Amazon and it looks like it has everything - I've ordered it and will let you know what I think.
I was a little offended when I saw that this was written specifically for women, so I went on the Nolo website. She has written a lot of books on this subject and they are for any small business owner - not offended any longer. Her books look great.
Okay, so I'm not a woman and I'm not starting a small business. I do, however, have an interest in small business start-up books - this one looks comprehensive. I took a look at the Table of Contents online and I'm impressed at the volume of information - thanks for the recommendation.
As an attorney, I love this author. Yes, she is an attorney, but she lives in the business world as a consultant which gives her a balanced viewpoint. She gives great legal and financial advice. If I was starting a small business, I would use this as my guide for everything - she is smart and this information is solid. Nice review -
I started a small business a year ago and it has been very difficult. I'm still standing, but only by the grace of God. I ordered this book this morning and hope it sheds some light on the complexities of owning a small business in today's economy.
A book review - haven't seen you do this previously. I like it - most of us have little time to sort through all the new business books on the market and it's nice to read a review from a source I trust.
We miss you in Michigan.
