Rejoice, orchid lovers! The Franklin Park Conservatory in Columbus, Ohio is now featuring their special exhibit, "Orchids!" spotlighting hundreds of vividly colored tropical orchids surrounded by lush green foliage. The exhibit runs from Saturday, January 12 through Sunday, April 7. Columbus is approximately a 2 hour drive from Cleveland.
Orchids! Located in the Conservatory's Dorothy M. Davis Showhouse, this exhibit features vibrant orchid displays in brilliant hues showcasing imaginative and artistic horticultural designs involving the exotic flower. Just a couple of the sights visitors can expect to see are orchid chandeliers and orchid arches.
Inspiring the design of this year's "Orchids!" display are the suspended sculptures of Aurora Robson on view at the Conservatory at the Sacrifice + Bliss exhibit. Created from discarded materials and meant to raise awareness about plastic pollution, these intricate sculptures include one made from 9000 clear plastic bottles and 80,000 bottle caps.
Visitors to "Orchids!" can also partake of orchid talks by staff educators and horticulturists daily at 1 p.m., weekly orchid walks (tours of the exhibit accompanied by a staff horticulturist) on Saturdays at 11 a.m. and Orchid Sundays where Central Ohio Orchid Society members will answer any orchid questions.
