I don’t usually buy Everyday with Rachael Ray magazine. Since I’m a huge fan of Food Network I decided I’d give it a try and picked up August’s issue. The ribs on the front cover really caught my eye. Since this magazine is Rachael Ray’s, one would assume that the recipes included in the magazine would take 30 minutes or less to cook. The ribs that are featured on the front cover take almost 5 hours to cook! Though I don’t know of any rib recipe that takes 30 minutes or less to cook. However, most of the recipes included were 30 minutes or less.
O
ne of the articles that I enjoyed the most was "Easier than Pie". There are three pastry doughs to choose from: nutty shortbread, flaky pastry, or lemon cornmeal. Eighteen fillings were featured and you combine them with one of the three pastries. They sound really easy to make and look delicious! Unfortunately, I was very disappointed in the short article entitled, "How to Fake a Sick Day". With irresponsibility running rampant in this country right now, do we really need to be told how to be even more irresponsible? Actually I was pretty shocked that the article was even included in the magazine. Articles like that are usually reserved for Cosmo. Since I am an avid book fan, the article entitled, "The Great Escape" really caught my eye. Planning for beach socials are inspired by four different beach reads: In a Sunburned Country, A Moveable Feast, The Man Who Ate Everything, and Around the World in Eighty Days. Decorations, recipes, and games all revolve around the chosen book. There are some great ideas for planning your next party. Even though there were some great recipes and stellar ideas from this month’s Everyday with Rachael Ray magazine, I’d be more inclined to stick with my subscription to Food Network Magazine. Food Network sticks more to food and recipes rather than “Cosmo” girl type articles.Other articles you may enjoy:

I'm not surprised Rachael Ray couldn't come up with a 30-minute sparerib recipe. Spareribs are resistant to time-saving cooking methods. It takes time to do them right, no matter what method you use.
I like Rachel Ray, and most of her recipes. I also enjoy her show. I have not seen her mag tho-so I can't comment on that.
It would be impossible to make good ribs in 30 minutes or less. You're right!
I've never read Rachel's mag, and after reading your review, I think I'm going to stick with my favorite Cooking Light. Some of Rachel's recipes are worth trying, however.
I don't like when cooking magazines go off track like that. I want them to stick with the recipes and food issues too. Faking a sick day-- not very classy.
Great article! I enjoy your honesty in a loving mannor :-)
I picked up the 9/09 issue of your magazine & seeing on a page a comment "you're so sick of us". I totally agree with the writer, just by reading the title of your article. Your answer was even more troubling. Your referral to playing hooky at school reminds me of an old saying "if Johnny jumped off the bridge would you too?" It is too bad that today's society does not have a clue about right and wrong and have no conscience regarding family or employment in taking advantage of others because they are too self-centered to understand the ramifications of their decisions. Your reply was condescending and out bounds.
