Everybody wins at the Oscars® including Chicago-based jewelry designer (Video)

“We are ecstatic,” beams Jan Lewis on the news that her 2013 spring line of bangles will be included in the “Everybody Wins at the Oscars®” Nominee Bag.

“To have our bangles associated with the world’s highest profile entertainment event of the year is a terrific endorsement as well as an honor; one that we proudly share equally with our customers and retailers,” notes the Chicago-based designer and founder/CEO of Jan Lewis Designs.

Host Seth MacFarlane and 2012 nominees Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper, Daniel Day-Lewis, Robert De Niro, Anne Hathaway, Jennifer Lawrence, Steven Spielberg, and Denzel Washington—as well as the other nominees in the best actor, best supporting actor, best actress, best supporting actress and best director categories—will receive a hand-crafted Jan Lewis Collection of artisan Fair Trade bangle on the morning after the Oscars® telecast on February 24, 2013 in Hollywood, California.

Distinctive Assets has been producing the “Everybody Wins at the Oscars®” Nominee Bag for 11 years. The legendary gift bag is designed to soften the blow of not going home with the golden statuette—hence its name, “Everybody will win at the Oscars®.”

Being included in the 85th Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences festivities is a thrill for Lewis, who adds, “I began this business focused only on creating a new line, a new look, for discriminating women who appreciate unique, moderately priced jewelry. My focus was also on Fair Trade. Each bangle is a one-of-a-kind piece and all of our jewelry is individually hand crafted by our artists in India who are paid a fair wage.”

After studying design at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Janet (Jan) Lewis went on the road with her husband, jazz artist Ramsey Lewis. While he was on stage, she would occupy her time by hand painting bangle bracelets. Eventually she accumulated 50 designs with her signature dot patterns that led to the founding of Jan Lewis Designs.
