It was reported on Sunday that English club Everton had put a bid for a loan on the Galaxy star Donovan to play from December to March. Coach Bruce Arena turned down the offer and told the press that Galaxy players are not going anywhere this year.
Donovan had played on loan with Everton the two previous years. Other clubs were interested in Omar Gonzalez but that has been turned down as well.
Current US National Men’s Team (USMNT) coach Jurgen Klinsmann told the press a couple of months ago that MLS players that are on the US roster should be loaned to Europe in order to stay active and be ready for the World Cup coming next summer.
Klinsmann idea has been refuted by Bruce Arena, and so Landon Donovan and Omar Gonzalez will not be traveling to Europe or anywhere else.
Bruce Arena stated that Gonzalez and Donovan can stay in shape and focus for the World Cup by going to the USMNT’s soccer camp.
Arena wants Landon Donovan and Omar Gonzalez healthy for March, the beginning of the 2014 MLS season, and the CONCACAF Champions League, which continues in March of 2014 as well.
