EverGreen Theatre Ensemble’s spring project, Twisted Olive and Friends, is a gathering of short plays that contain much humor with some engaging moments that might have the audience reflecting on their relationships with family, friends and work associates. The umbrella title was selected because of the Olive Oil store in Naperville. Twisted Olive, has become a friend ofEverGreen and the opening monologue, Mrs. Sorken, now has a first name, Mrs. Olive Sorken.
The three shorts in this project by playwright Chistopher Durang are: Mrs.Sorken, Entertaining Mr. Helms, Newt and the NRS, and Canker Sores and Other Distractions. Canker Sores takes place in a table in a restaurant, where Martin and Prunella, a former married couple, meet and talk about getting back together. All is going very well and both seem happy for the chance to rekindle their love relationship, until a terrible catastrophe occurs. Martin discovers he has a canker sore.
Two other pieces that an audience will enjoy are Foul Territory, by Craig Wright, two fans in the stands of Wrigley who are excited to see that this will be the year of the Cubs and The Falling Leaf, by Selma Blackwood, a first time presentation. It is a story of two lovers, Nina and Patrick, at the moment of pain that may send them down the path of love forever.
Sack of Grievances, a new play by local playwright, Donna Latham, explores the issues of three generations. Mary Claire her daughter and her daughter confront the Grandfather/Father and Grandmother/Mother, Giovania after a long absence from the family of 15 years; attempting to come to a closure of amends. Also part of Twisted Olive and Friends, are The Office by Kate Hollower; and So, Tell Me About This Guy by Dolores Wiskeyman.
