Sactoberfest claims to be the largest and most authentic Oktoberfest celebration in the Sacramento valley. Oktoberfest is a festival that has been celebrated in Munich since 1810, and now you can experience the fun for yourself.
The opening ceremony for the festival starts at 12:15 pm, with the official tapping of the first keg. This will be followed by a parade. The Sactoberfest Olympics begin at 1:30 with events such as the wurst toss and the keg race. Live music will be available all day for those in a dancing mood, or for those who want to enter the chicken dance competition. The full schedule of events is available on the Sactoberfest website.
There will be lots to eat and drink at this event. Food includes traditional German dishes, pretzels, and loads of bratwurst. Of course, there will be plenty of German beer available, but there will also be drinks from local breweries if you’re after something closer to home. However, if you’re the designated driver or just don’t feel like drinking, you can get the special “Designated Driver” ticket for only $10.
