Uninhibited, unique, and unclothed best describe the upcoming show featuring “Sweet Pie” a.k.a. Paul Winer. With fans spanning four decades, the nearly au naturel pianist has resurrected his show-stopping schtick for a one-night-only performance at Joe’s Pub in NYC. “Pie”, as he is commonly known, will once again share the stage with his longtime harmonica player Will Peroni.
Expect to see the Baron of Bare-Assed Boogie Woogie and Blues, belt out fan favorites that are peppered with his signature storytelling and improv. According to Variety his act “has to be seen to be believed”.
Donning just a top hat and loin cloth has been problematic for Sweet Pie in the past. He’s been arrested and brought to court 68 times. Every time, without exception, the outcome was in his favor – thanks to the steadfast rights outlined in our country’s First Amendment.
When he’s not performing, the now 70-year old resides in Quartzsite, Arizona – a town profusely populated with pop-up RVs. If you are ever in town, you can find Sweet Pie at his bookstore, Reader’s Oasis Books, where he’s affectionately referred to as the “Naked Bookseller”.
