During any event you plan or host there should always be a great social media strategy to back it up. It is important to know what to do before, during, and after an event has taken place to maximize the exposure.
Promoting a special event is not an easy task; especially when using online marketing methods as a means for promotion. With the abundance of new social networking sites emerging almost daily it can be a daunting task finding a and sticking with just one. The key is to research and narrow down popular social media sites to see who their target audience is. Find sites that match your product or services target market and join them. Participate in two or three sites as to not overwhelm yourself. Popular sites to peruse include Facebook, Twitter, Google Plus, Pinterest, LinkedIn, etc. These are some of the most popular social networks on the web.
After finding the popular social networks it is good to find some niche related social media sites. These will have much smaller audiences, but everyone in there is interested in your niche so they are all leads. It is good to join a couple of these sites as well as they are highly targeted and likely to generate many leads or sales.
After selecting what social media sites to focus in on you must create accounts and actively participate in these sites. This does not mean create an account, through some pictures up, and create an event. You must fill out the profile completely as the more info you put the better your participants will feel about joining the event. Get specific ere and back it up with links to other social media channels, websites, videos, testimonials, websites, etc. The more credibility you can offer on a social media site the better off you will be.
It is a good idea to create a hashtag for the social media sites that accept them about your event. This is a great way to track the exposure and see who has came to the event and posted about it. Anyone who uses the event hashtag is great for marketing to at a future date. Make your hashtag short and memorable as it needs to fit in social media updates and stand out to others reading status updates, such as a company name #MusicEntertainmentServices.
Make sure to update the social channels regularly, especially as it nears in on the event date. You want to remind people about your event without spamming them. This means a balance of self promotion and posting useful information is key to success. For example, if you are promoting a fundraiser event then you do not want to only post about the fundraiser, but also post about what the fundraiser has to offer, who is sponsoring it, what the outcome will be, etc. Same goes for almost any type of event such as EDC Las Vegas, clazzio leather seats, a wedding, catering services, nannies, etc. The list goes on and on..
Engage and connect with your social media audience. Simply posting will not do it anymore. You mush comment, like, and share other peoples content to get their attention. Join groups and follow influential people in your niche in hopes that they will follow you back and share your content. Build up a strong following and it will be easier to market your next event and you can usually use the same people if it is help in the same area.
These are just a few of the possibilities when it comes to marketing an event online. Let me know what you think and if there is anything missing in the comments below.
