Designer and star of The Fashion Show Isaac Mizrahi will be live at the Lincoln Center branch of the New York Public Library on January 20th, 2011. The event, titled On Stage In Fashion, will be a conversation between Mr. Mizrahi and good friend, choreographer Mark Morris.
For anyone who has been a longtime fan of IsaacMizrahi, this will be a chance to see the designer in rare form. His acerbic wit and outspoken personality were the subject of a 1995 documentary called Unzipped, which was directed by Douglas Keeve. In the film Mr. Mizrahi visuallizes the content and production of his spring collection, rallying after disastrous reviews from the previous season. His determination to stay true to his vision for the show, as well as to present a collection that would wow critics and buyers captures the essence of what it means to be a designer. The film is also a time machine visit back to the heyday of the supermodels and cultural icons of the time, such as Sandra Bernhard. Mark Morris makes a cameo in the film, curly hair tumbling over a fur jacket.
Mark Morris was and is a major player in the dance world, known as much for his ground-breaking choreography in modern dance as for his much photographed ethereal good looks. Mr. Morris and Mr. Mizrahi have collaborated on a number of projects, with Mizrahi designing costumes for the troupe since 1992. Their latest project was Orfeo and Euridice for the Metropolitan Opera, set to debut this spring.
