When we are sick, we burrow under the blankets, drink plenty of fluids, take medicine and sleep much, often and heavily. We forget work, school, family, everything that doesn’t have to do with that special throne, the bed. But what if you’re a celebrity? Do you pretend you’re not sick and go on and do your concert do you cancel your performance and refund everyone’s money? Most go on with the show.
Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Adele and Taylor Momsen have gotten sick on stage or just before they go on stage. Recently, American Idol contestant, Symone Zaire Black, fainted and fell while appearing on stage. Justin Bieber collapsed backstage during his London concert just recently. He was heard saying he had breathing problems and was given oxygen backstage.
Many of these problems can be attributed to lack of rest, not just sleep, but good-old-fashioned rest where you do nothing. Like the rest of us, they need long hours of sleep, plenty of fluids and time to recover and get back to normal. But with the long hours, constant feeling of having to be “up” and the constant barrage of people around, it’s easy to pass germs around, and hard to rest. Rest is to the body, what reading is to the brain. All of us need time to recharge.
