Fans and stans alike gathered together at The Howard Theatre for the extremely intimate concert of Grammy Award winning rapper-song writer Eve. Although few in number the amount of positive energy resonating from the audience full of her supporters was enough to fill a stadium. Opening acts included Violinist/DJ duo The Dolls comprised of Mia Moretti and Caitlin Moe aka Margot. These two ladies profoundly represent a bright and shining glimmer of hope for the future of music. Their compositions and covers offered innovative takes to oldies but goodies and throwback jams of basement parties past. Local GoGo band Familiar Faces headed by legendary GoGo great Donnell Floyd was the second opening act which overall made for a very interesting potpourri of musical instrumentation. Even those not true fans of GoGo music found themselves bopping their heads and moving to the rhythm of their beats.
The audience then crowded the apron of the stage just before the curtains rose to reveal the one and only Eve after a long awaited return. Hit after hit lyrics began to spew into the microphone while Eve and her 7” stilettos enthusiastically stomped across the stage. Everything from “Who’s That Girl” to “Love Is Blind” to “Gangsta Lovin” even “Satisfaction” was covered. Not to be mistaken for a ‘has been’ by any measure, she also performed songs from her newly released independent album Lip Lock which was the cornerstone of the concert/promotional tour. The audience got a musical taste of familiar Eve as well as an even happier and more positive Eve to come with tracks like “Grind or Die” and “Make It out This Town". Her set ended with playful interaction and crowd participation that won’t soon be forgotten. With this new beginning for Eve things are definitely back on track with prospects of being even better than before.
