CloseKnit, a full-service yarn shop located in downtown Evanston, is extending an open invitation to yarn crafters for the weekend of October 26 and 27 to participate in an Open House in their new space. After relocating from 531 Davis Street a quarter-mile around the corner over the summer, CloseKnit is ready to have an official Open House complete with surprises for both passersby and loyal customers.
The former space, near the busy intersection of Davis and Chicago Avenues in downtown Evanston, was limited in space and light. The new location at 1630 Orrington Avenue has plenty of both, with a closer proximity to public transportation and ample parking on the street and in nearby lots. The space on Orrington has given the store a chance to introduce a few new yarns, such as Luzia from Louisa Harding and Ushuaia by Katia Yarns. The store has also kept true to its roots, providing high-quality yarns and using the extra space to introduce new colors to expand the lines already carried in the store.
With its expanded space, CloseKnit is a treat for yarn shoppers. The walls and bins are stocked with fall and winter yarns, and needles are housed in a section of the wall with more than enough light to see their size. The soothing green walls with white trim encourage knitters to feel welcome and relaxed while they shop or take a class. An expanded cash wrap allows for more than just a cash register; notions and body products rest atop the area where customers can pay for their items.
The Open House will occur from 11:00a.m. to 4:30p.m. on Saturday, and from 12:00p.m. to 4:00p.m. on Sunday, with no purchase necessary to participate. Some highlights of the weekend include patrons entering a raffle for prizes, refreshments offered throughout the day, and demonstrations of both new products and up-to-the-buzz techniques such as arm-knitting. CloseKnit will also be open during the duration of the Open House, with staff on hand to aid with purchases and yarn or project choices.
