An armed bank robber is dead after police tried to apprehend the suspect who had just robbed the Chase Bank branch in the 900 block of Grove Street around 3 p.m. Monday afternoon, according to CBS Chicago.

Based on a description from a bank teller, responding officers attempted to stop the offender. But when he refused to drop his weapon, officers opened fire, hitting the suspect according to an Evanston Police press release.

The suspect was taken to Evanston Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police recovered money and a weapon at the shooting scene, the release said.

The suspect is believed to be the same person who robbed a TCF Bank branch at 4355 N. Sheridan Road in Chicago last Thursday.
