Evans red hot as Roughnecks meet Rush Saturday

The Calgary Roughnecks enter tonight's game against the Edmonton Rush Saturday with the National Lacrosse League's top player for the month of January.

According to www.calgaryroughnecks.com, Roughnecks forward Shawn Evans of Peterborough, Ontario received the honour on Thursday after recording 13 goals and 18 assists in the first month of 2013. Evans led the National Lacrosse League in points with 31, was second in the NLL in goals to Rhys Duch of the Washington Stealth and third in the NLL in assists.

Meanwhile, Rush forward Mark Matthews, the NLL's first overall pick in the 2012 draft, was named the NLL rookie of the month for January. Matthews, from Oshawa, Ontario leads Edmonton in goals, assists and points. So far this season, Matthews has eight goals and 11 assists for 19 points.

Calgary (2-2) is in second place in the NLL's Western Division, while Edmonton is 1-2 and is tied for third place with the Minnesota Swarm and Colorado Mammoth.

This is the first of back-to-back games between the Roughnecks and Rush as Calgary will face Edmonton next Saturday in Calgary.
