Remember
Tony Alamo? He's the founder of Arkansas' Alamo Christian Ministries and, if you read his tracts, a persecuted Christ-like figure who has been victimized by everyone from Ronald Reagan and the federal government to the Pope. Today he's been convicted in a Texarkana courtroom of 10 counts of sex abuse against girls as young as 9. The victims, who currently range in age from 17 to 33, testified that Alamo "married" them in private ceremonies while they were still minors and transported them across state lines for sexual gratification. He could receive a sentence of up to 175 years in prison as well as a $250,000 fine for each count.
Born September 20, 1934 as Bernie LaZar Hoffman, the flamboyant Alamo has been making headlines for years. He changed his name to Tony Alamo in 1966 when he married his second wife, Susan. Hand his wife founded the Tony and Susan Alamo Christian Foundation in Hollywood, California in1969. They ran a television ministry and sold a line of "Tony Alamo" brand sequined jackets on the side. When Susan died of cancer in 1984, he kept the body on display for 6 months and in his possession for 16 years before releasing it to her family.

This is hardly Alamo's first run-in with the law either. He spent 4 years in prison as a result of a 1994 conviction for tax evasion. His Foulke, Arkansas compound has been raided before over civil suits and other actions but the current trial came after a September 2008 raid involving allegations of child abuse and child pornography. After the conviction, he left the courthouse to be greeted by cries of "Bye, bye Bernie!" (a reference to his birth name). As US marshalls escorted him to their van, the 74-year-old Alamo called out to reporters, "I'm just another one of the prophets that went to jail for the Gospel."

Tony Alamo is no prophet. He is a very sick perverted man who used the name of God to fulfill his mental disorder for little girls. He won't last long in prison and he still has to stand before the true and living God.

Id like to say that Im very sorry to hear about Tonys incarceration, though Im certain it will be short-lived. I know that things can change in a moments time, just like in the days of old.
And even though the enemies of God, and of the church, feel themselves victorious and triumphant, just as did Dathan and Abiram against Moses, and Haman, the Jews enemy, who was hanged on the gallows he built for Mordecai, and the king of Assyria against Hezekiah and Israel, and many other examples in the Bible of the wicked rising up against Gods anointed it only serves to seal their own fate.
Id like to add that during the 30 years I was at the church, I, with great interest and encouragement, observed Tony (and Sue, while she was alive), and what I saw was a man and his wife, struggle to feed, clothe, provide shelter, medical and dental, and the rest of lifes necessities, along with teaching new converts the Gospel and
FAMILY OBJECTS TO PUBLICITY ON SUSAN ALAMO
PRESS ARGUS-COURIER FEB. 25, 1991
By BILLIE GRIFFIN
Four members of Susan Alamos family granted this exclusive interview with the Press Argus-Courier Friday because, according to Wanda Alexander of Van Buren, a cousin, they have not spoken out against allegations, rumors of adverse publicity about their relative until now, but are finding it increasingly difficult. Susan has been dead nine years. They ask that people let the gossip and rumors stop and that once and for all Susan Alamo be allowed to rest in peace.
The women in this interview include a niece who does not want to be identified by name, Bonnie McAlister of Rudy (her husband and Susan were cousins) and Marie Dean, (a cousin). Together they looked over family pictures and reminisced about the Susan they knew.
Susan and Bonnies husband were raised together. His mother had died. Susans father had died. They all lived together with grandma and grandpa (Jo and Mary France
McAlister up on Georgia Ridge. This was close to where the Alamo foundation is now.
Alexander can remember when Susan came back from California. Edna (Susans sister) and I would go to the restaurant and help make pies. Thats when I became acquainted with members of the foundation. I met some of the nicest people there you would ever hope to meet, a lot nicer than some you can find out here on the streets. We went to Nashville and stayed with them (Susan and Tony Alamo) for a couple of nights and were treated like kings and queens. I have been with her a lot of times in the restaurant. I went shopping with her for furniture for the foundation. She and I made a trip over to Sallisaw, OK., one day looking for graves over in that Indian cemetery in Sallisaw. They were looking for Susans fathers grave. Its exact location was lost when a storm damaged a courthouse and destroyed records.

She felt Susans body was taken because of a local newspapers story saying the body was seized as part of the property of the Alamo Foundation and all of the property would be sold.
She questioned the restraining order placed on Susans body at the request of Susans daughter. Alexander said if Tony was not living, she felt the daughter could make such a request. She said there were no objections raised about the order at the time it was made because the family had not been notified.
Susan was laid to rest in a pink casket flanked by roses. They repudiate rumors she was placed in a casket with a glass front. They also are angry about rumors Tony kept the glass-encased body with him n the mansion. Alexander said angrily people have asked her questions such as this. If they had any kind of intelligence they could realize no one would want to view a decomposing body.
Alexander said Susan believed you couldnt out give God.
We want her left alone, Alexander said. The ni

What a sick, evil being.
