Evangelist: it’s hard to tell the church from the club

Tameka Bob, AKA Dr. Bob, is a native of Louisiana who now resides in California. Dr. Bob is now utilizing You Tube to deliver messages (“don’t call them sermons”) of truth, growth and spiritual awareness.

Her current focus, “Club or Church,” takes an unbiased view of how people dress for church, and the impact it can have on worshippers. In the video, Dr. Bob does not focus only on those with tight clothing; she also looks at how the right clothing worn the wrong way can expose belly buttons and upper thighs. This in turn may cause men to focus on the legs, and not the Lord.

Even though her message is sound, Dr. Bob stated that she would not approach someone dressed sexily. “I would not approach someone dressed inappropriately. Even though I’d like to sometimes, I do not feel that it is my place to do so. The topic should come from the head (of the church.)”.

Contrary to popular opinion, the Bible does not say we can come as we are. The book of Revelation invites people to come; but this is more related to the end times, and a call to action. Most people facing this issue believe that just like God gave us His very best and first; we are to give Him our best and first. This not only applies to tithing, it also applies to how we dress and live.

A lot is made of how people dress in the church. The economy has put limits on wardrobes, and most people dress for everything out of the same closet. Is revealing clothing an issue for you at church? Would you address or approach someone who wore provocative clothing to worship?
