THR has learned today that Paramount is going full speed ahead with "G.I. Joe 3."
After the second film grossed over $370 million worldwide it isn't hard to imagine why they feel the need to keep the series going.
The studio has hired Evan Daugherty ("Snow White and the Huntsman") to write the script, and rumor has it Dwayne Johnson will make a triumphant return (he is the only reason the second film was good... him and Snakeyes).
It is interesting to note that as far as writing goes he isn't the most talented, which leads me to believe the studio is more interested in making another mindless summer flick then trying to pump out an actual quality product that still makes money.
Why pay extra for a good script when you can throw that money at over-the-top special effects, and bring The Rock in to blow stuff up?
