Evacuations at LAX on Friday, Nov. 1 were reported around 12:30 p.m. EST. According to MSN, a gunman with a "high powered rifle" opened fire inside the security gate of Terminal 3 at the always-busy international airport. Police responded to reports of shots fired and many people fled the airport, scared for their lives. Police reportedly shot him and took him down.
According to various reports the incident is now under control. One TSA agent was shot and his condition is unknown. The gunman's (who was also shot) condition is also unknown at this time.
Evacuations at LAX have been halted. One witness said that airport security agents ran through the terminal and shouted that someone had a gun. Everything happened very quickly. Popping sounds were heard and any one within earshot hit the floor. "I heard popping and everybody dropped to the ground," said passenger Robert Perez. Another witness, Brian Keech, said that he heard "about a dozen gunshots."
Local television stations have been showing pictures of firefighters "wheeling out" people who may have been injured. Despite an early report that only two people had been shot (one being the gunman), it looks like more people may have been hurt in this frightening ordeal.
The evacuations at LAX were primarily in Terminal 3. Police have sectioned off the area in order to conduct an investigation. Triage stations were set up around the airport to assist any of those who may have been injured.
