One film that seems to have gone under the radar lately is the Eva Mendes helmer Girl in Progress, a coming of age story about a single, Hispanic mother and her young daughter trying to grow up as soon as possible. The two butt heads because one has yet to grow up (the mother) and the other is ready to leave the nest (daughter). While I'm not too thrilled about the negative stereotypes this film is promoting about Hispanic parenting, I'm not so sure the film will get enough attention to really make an impression.
The trailer doesn't have widespread appeal and Mendes' acting seems lackluster. The only possible draw of the film may be actress Patricia Arquette who plays the daughters teacher. Maybe this will be the secret hit of the Spring but I have mixed feelings about the overall quality of the film. Check out the trailer above and let me know what you think!
