Eustace Conway is well known for his role on the hit television show, “Mountain Men” on the History channel. Conway lives off the land deep in the Smokey Mountains of NC. He calls his backwoods home Turtle Island and faces many struggles, surviving each challenge in a totally self-reliant environment.
Dan and Jan Stover from Greenville IL may not live on a secluded mountain, but they are also dedicated to the self- reliance movement. They are so dedicated to teaching and sharing the art of being self-reliant that they started their own monthly publication geared towards the self-reliant community. The Owl Creek Gazette is filled with articles and how to’s to help people live a healthier, more self-reliant lifestyle.
The couple also host meetings and demonstrations at the Owl Creek Gazette office for local residents that are interested in learning self-reliance. This year they have decided to take sharing their knowledge to an even larger level by hosting and organizing the first annual Owl Creek Gazette Self Reliance Expo. Jan Stover told St. Louis TV Examiner:
"My husband, Don, and I are thrilled to be the organizers and hosts of the first annual Owl Creek Gazette Self-Reliance Expo. To be able to bring this one-of-a-kind event to our area and host nationally and regionally known individuals in the Self-Reliance Movement such as Eustace Conway is a true honor. We invite folks to come out and join us on Saturday, March 15th."
The workshops and expo area will feature over 20 vendors, exhibits and demonstrations. Expo attendees will learn about Alpaca farms, using all natural herbs, homesteading, soap making, and a host of other self-reliant ways of life, along with meeting and hearing key-note speaker Eustace Conway from “Mountain Men.” If you have ever wanted to learn to be more self-reliant, or are just curious as to what it is all about, here is your chance all packed into one exciting event.
The Owl Creek Gazette Self-Reliance Expo will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 310 S Second Street, Greenville, Il from 10: a.m. until 6:p.m. Eustace Conway is scheduled to speak at 1:p.m. Tickets to hear Conway speak are $25.00 in advance or $35.00 at the door and are separate from the Expo Hall and Workshops area.
