Tony Eury Sr., known to family and friends as ‘Pops’ was released from a Concord North Carolina hospital Monday after being involved in a two car crash Sunday night.
According to a report from the North Carolina Highway Patrol the accident happened around 7:00 p.m. Sunday night when a car driven by a woman identified in the report as Dorothy Stevens, ran a stop sign at the intersection of NC Route 152 and Stirewalt Road near China Grove. The 2008 Chevy truck Eury was driving west on 152 then struck her Oldsmobile.
The impact of the crash sent the truck into a fire hydrant and a trailer hauling a personal watercraft that was attached into the front yard of a home near the intersection. The Oldsmobile caught fire and also came to rest in the front yard of the home less then 20 feet from the house. The first firefighters on the scene had to pull Steven’s and her 13-year-old granddaughter from the burning car. Firefighters were able to douse the flames before the home was damaged.
Eury was able to get out of his truck, which according to the report was engulfed in smoke.
No word on Eury’s exact injuries or if there were any charges pending against Stevens who was listed in fair condition at CMC-Northeast Hospital Monday afternoon. There was no report if her granddaughter was injured.
Eury, the uncle of Dale Earnhardt Junior, and currently the crew chief for the No. 88 JR Motorsports Chevy driven by Brad Keselowski in the NASCAR Nationwide Series.
