The first round of competition began at the 2012 European Championships in Sheffield, Great Britain, today with the preliminary qualifying rounds for the men and the ice dance teams. 2010 Olympic silver medalist Evgeni Plushenko easily took the men’s prelims with a solid free skate that included a quad toe and five triples. In dance, Azerbaijan’s Julia Zlobina and Alexei Sitnikov won their preliminary round.
