In honor of Christmas coming, I will be posting information about items and sellers who are part of the Etsy for Autism street team on Etsy.com. Etsy is a web site that caters to artists, crafters, and hobbyists and allows them to set up internet stores with their wares. Everyone on the Etsy for Autism team is unique in their goal to spread awareness about autism.
Today's profile in creativity features Lola, whose shop Autism Love Hope is full of beautiful autism awareness jewelry. Lola's son Aden is 3 and was diagnosed with autism at 15 months of age. Lola has been making jewelry and hair clips since middle school, often selling her items at her mother's craft shows. When her son was diagnosed with autism she was inspired to start making autism awareness jewelry because she couldn't find the kind of jewelry she wanted to wear. Her charm bracelets and earrings are colorful and fun, and feature autism awareness ribbon charms.
Lola found that while eBay is a great place to buy things, it is not always great place to sell hand made items. A friend told her about Etsy, and she opened a shop soon afterward. Like many parents with children on the spectrum, Lola is a stay at home mom who takes her son to multiple therapy sessions and doctors appointments each week. Not only does her Etsy shop help supplement her income, but making jewelry gives her a creative outlet. Lola also makes custom jewelry. Her web site and blog can be seen here.
